Prayer

Date: 26 April 2008
Speaker: Pastor Kong Hee
Venue: City Harvest Church

1 Chronicles 4:9
Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in pain.”

Honorable in hebrews means, glory, substance and weight.

1 Chronicles 4:10
And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.

He sought after God's kingdom first, then for the enlargement of his influence, then for the anointing of God to be on him, then wait for God's victory over, then for victory over temptations.

Without prayer you cannot connect with God.

To do great things in life, Prayer must become a big part of your life.

Prayer must be disciplined. (desire > discipline > spiritual delight)

Mark 16:15
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.

Mark 16:17-18
And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

As your engage culture, He will help you solve the problems that you encounter. He will give you the ability to speak in tongues.

5 purposes of Tongues:
- for self-edification
(to charge up yourself)
- for praise and worship (Acts 2:11 Cretans and Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.)
- for intercession (on behalf of people. Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.)
- for spiritual warfare (Ephesians 6:18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints)
- for revelation (1 Corinthians 14:15 What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.) (Acts 2:1-4 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.) (Acts 2:16-17 But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: ‘ And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams.)
