Blessed are those who mourn. (grieving over our sins)
2 Corinthians 7:10
For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.
Without brokenness, you cannot release the presence of God within you.
John 12:1-8
Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.
Without brokenness, you cannot be touched by the presence of God.
1 Corinthians 1:26
For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called.
Without brokenness, you cannot be used mightily by God.
Jonah 2:3-10
For You cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the floods surrounded me; All Your billows and Your waves passed over me. Then I said, ‘I have been cast out of Your sight; Yet I will look again toward Your holy temple.’ The waters surrounded me, even to my soul; The deep closed around me; Weeds were wrapped around my head. I went down to the moorings of the mountains; The earth with its bars closed behind me forever; Yet You have brought up my life from the pit, O LORD, my God. “ When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the LORD; And my prayer went up to You, into Your holy temple. “ Those who regard worthless idols forsake their own mercy. But I will sacrifice to You with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay what I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.” So the LORD spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.
Without brokenness, you cannot wrestle with Christ in life.
Genesis 32:28
And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; For you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.”
Hindrances to brokenness:
* Not recognizing the dealing hands of God.
* Holding back by self-love.
* Confession of sin.
* Conversion.
- forsaking: the actual leaving behind of former sins and value system.
- restitution: the paying back, compensation for a loss, damage or injury.
- reconciliation: the ending of conflict or renewing of a friendly relationship.
- good works.
- serving God.
