Changing Our Mindsets

Date: 06 September 2008
Speaker: Pastor Tan Ye Peng
Venue: City Harvest Church

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

God is not our problem, He is on our side. Right thinking produces right living.

If you put on the mind of God, you will know your future and destiny.

Put away defeated, critical and negative thoughts. Think victoriously, positively and generously.

1) We need to change the way we think about who we are in God.

Matthew 14:25-32
Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear.
But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.”
And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.”
So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.

Matthew 11:28-30
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Come to Him and learn from Him.

As much as we have faith in God, God has faith in you. So have faith in yourself.

John 15:16
You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.

He chooses not only the best, but also those beneath. Remove self-doubt and understand who you are in Christ.

2) We need to change the way we think about what is important to God.

While it is important to save souls, it is more important to groom them up in the Lord. Sometimes we are busy with doing so many things for God that we forgot what is most important in His eyes.

3) Change the way we think about our giving to God.

When we do something, do we do it out of duty or out of faith and love? God does not want our empty works, He wants our hearts.

Psalm 50:12
“If I were hungry, I would not tell you;
For the world is Mine, and all its fullness.
